The World Economic Forum’s Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders has issued a powerful open letter to governments and policymakers, urging them to implement transformative policies to accelerate climate action.
The goal is to cut CO2 emissions in half by 2023 and maintain the critical 1.5°C temperature target. Over 100 CEOs and senior executives signed the letter before the UN Climate Change Conference 2024 (COP29).
The UN Climate Change Conference, COP29, will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 11 to 22 November 2024.
The Alliance represents $4 trillion in revenues and 12 million employees, including in healthcare, retail, heavy industry, and agriculture. Between 2019 and 2022, they achieved a 10% reduction in aggregated emissions reductions while delivering aggregate revenue growth of 18% in the same period.

According to a news release from the World Economic Forum, between 2019 and 2022, members of the Alliance successfully reduced their total emissions by an impressive 10%. This achievement reflects their commitment to sustainability and showcases their expertise in tackling environmental challenges.
Who are the Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders?
The Alliance of CEOs have proposed three climate actions for governments to accelerate climate action:
- Investing massively in green energy and the electric grid
- Governments can ask companies to adhere to their Net Zero 2025 targets through procurement processes.
- Expand carbon capture through biomass or forests and also through the large-scale implementation of carbon capture technology.
